Jacinth or Hyacinth - Transparent reddish-brown or a reddish-orange variety of Zircon. Although these terms are no longer used in the gem trade, they are historically important names going back to the times.
Let me tell you what Zircon is, as some people are confusing Zircon
with diamonds whereas some people don’t have any idea, so this blog will guide you to know and understand better about Zircon.
What is Zircon?
ZIRCON The GEMSTONE
Zircon is one of the historic crystal or stone. A piece of
zircon was found in 2014, in Australia, which was nearly 4.5 billion years
making it as old as the planet itself. Zircon comes way closer to the
properties of Diamond than any other natural gem.
Zircon is a well-known mineral, with a variety of colors.
It has brilliant luster and fire, combined with its good hardness, make it a
desirable gem. Zircon remained unscathed under the tremendous heat and pressure
of continental shifts and even violent asteroid impacts on zircon which caused
a 7.5 on The Mohs hardness scale, is perfect for everyday use in jewelry. As
the gem produces the reflection of the light twice, the double Refraction known
as “BIREFRINGENCE”, which results in amazing brilliance.
Zircon has suffered over the years firstly by its use as a
cheaper substitute for diamonds and then recently by getting puzzled with the
man-made diamond substitute, cubic zirconium. As a mineral, zircon is less
rare. It is a common constituent of igneous rocks, such as granite, etc.
